It´s about time we talked about the potential of the new Flash-player. We are very excited about it and think this will improve the Voddler-experience.
First of all it is only the media-player that will be changed. The distribution technology and content manager VoddlerNet will still be the center of Voddler. That is a cost-effective distribution system adaptable to a growing number of users.
There are quite a few media-player options out there and each and everyone with special advantages. The reasons behind our Adobe Flash-player are:
• Adobe Air-compliment. With the new player you will be given two choices. 1. Browse our website for a movie and press play, automatically activating a desktop client in which you will watch the movie. 2. Open up our client and browse much like you would do in the current Voddler Client; only with a greater interface, user-friendly features and mouse-control.
• DRM (Digital Rights Management). Adobe has a build-in and trustworthy DRM to protect our content without interfering with the user-experience. Approved by all major studios and movie distributors.
• Adobe Air is a major video platform with great looking plans for future editions that will suite Voddler perfectly. Adobe is right now beta testing Adobe Flash 10.1, which is planned to be released April/May, and Voddler is adapted to the 10.1-version. The greatest adaption in the 10.1-version is the hardware acceleration, enabling better quality and resolution with decreased CPU-usage.
• Supportin both Windows and Mac OS and works with all major web browsers. In March Voddler will be available to both Windows and Mac users.
• Great collaboration with Adobe, including support and development discussions.
• Faster interface and user-friendly features such as better fast-forwarding, better subtitle support and mouse control.
The priority of Voddler is your movie experience and with that in mind we feel confident that Adobe Flash/Air is the best solution for Voddler.
The new Voddler website, equipped with a Flash-player, is released on March 8th. Until then the service of Voddler will be unavailable.
Voddler was exposed to an attempted security breach. The Voddler Client, the media-player, was attacked and we take seriously to all offences towards Voddler, our members and the content. Therefore we have decided to close the service until the new website is launched. With the new Flash media-player, under construction since autumn 2009, to be released in March the decision was easy to make.
EDIT: Voddler would like to stress the fact that there is no harm in having the Voddler Client installed on your computer. Today’s issue was regarding the client, as a media-player, and with no relation to your account as a user or the security of your computer.
The new Voddler will feature web-based movie-player, search tool and mouse control. With a completely web-based movie service Voddler is confident to be able to meet the ever-growing demand for a great selection of free and rentable movies in an accessible environment. The sparkling new Voddler service will not only satisfy the Swedish movie-viewers but the time has come to invite Norway, Denmark and Finland.
Important for all of our members and partners to remember is that the security code of Voddler Client, the media-player, was attacked. No personal details, movie content or transaction information was ever at risk. We have, and will always, prioritize safety issues regarding information about our members and the content of our service.
Are you a Comhem customer and are having problems watching movies on Voddler? It´s might not be the first thing to cross your mind that your Internet settings might be the root of your problems with an online service.
This particular problem is identified by buffering and eventually stopping movies you try to watch. Annoying and frustrating, especially when you´ve made sure to have enough bandwidth, checked your firewall/antivirus program.
We are discussing the issue with Comhem and while we are hard at work coming up with a solution to this problem we have a quick work-around with Comhem standard modem Cisco EPC2425:
1. Open your web browser and go to 192.168.0.1
2. Type your Comehem password. If you don´t have a Comhem password just click OK and you will be able to choose one on the next page.
3. Go to ”Set up”.
4. Click Firewall -> Options
5. Uncheck the checkbox “IP Flood Detection” and “Apply”
6. Done

Voddler is happy to present the adventurous animated movie Up from Disney/Pixar
- premieres on Voddler February 17th.
Carl Fredricksen is 78 years old and dreams about new adventures and travelling. Well, it´s about time to stop dreaming and start acting. Many balloons later and Carl is ready for take-off. A boy scout, Russell, unintentionally accompanies Carl on the journey and together they meet the most interesting personalities and explore a magic world.
A brilliant story in true Disney and Pixar spirit. The characters are lovable and the movie offer both laughter and some tears. It´s available on Voddler at the same time as the DVD-release. Both Swedish and English speaking versions are available.
Slavic Zoran, Executive VP Voddler, is our content manager and handles all the tough negotiations with the studios. There is usually a long process of negotiation for several months and travel back and forth to e.g.. Hollywood before the contract is signed and we can load Voddler with even more movies.
- When studios and movie distributors are singing agreements with Voddler, we get access to both their library titles and newer ones. Our ambition is to fill Voddler with movies from all studios, of every genre – blockbusters, independent flicks and classics. Also, local movie makers might have an opportunity to reach a larger audience via Voddler which is great news to everyone, said Zoran Slavic.
After an agreement is signed between Voddler and a movie company the movie has to go through our publishing department before you can see it in Voddler. Thanks to our very skilled publishing team we can add several new movies a day, giving you an ever updated service.
The new website, as reported earlier is due for release soon, will have more space for advertising. Something Carl Falkenberg is pleased with. As the free movies are funded by ads this is a step in the right direction. The main focus of Voddler is movies – and NEVER will we allow commercial breaks while playing a movie. Ads and commercials are seen on the website and before the movie. During the commercials you are not able to fast forward or minimize the window.
- To provide our advertisers with new opportunities to expose to our members is a positive feature. Our ambition is that the ads in Voddler should be as relevant as possible to the receiver. With ad-funded movies AND relevant commercial messages we are certain to enhance the Voddler experience further,” says Carl Falkenberg
We will, in addition to our current Voddler Client, launch a desktop client based on Adobe Air.
Voddler is mainly about enjoying movies the way you like it. Some of our members have had technical difficulties with the current client, and we wouldn´t want to let you guys miss out on all the fun on Voddler, so this will be a great complement.
In addition, the new Adobe Air Client will have more user-friendly features such as mouse support and more flexible menus.
The new Adobe Air Client will be available for testing in March.
The reason behind multiple clients is simple – we want as many of our members to be able to enjoy Voddler without any technical limitations and according to your preferences. More information will follow.
Great news for all of our Norweigan friends. Voddler is about to launch a beta version in Norway later this spring. You can sign up for a Voddler Norway account on Voddler´s website. Invites will be handed out in queue order.
